Schmalentines I’d love to go back to celebrating Valentine’s Day like we did in grade school. Remember? We hung decorated paper bags off our desks to hold the little Superman or Holly Hobbie or Scooby Doo Valentine cards our parents bought for us to hand out. Seemed so much simpler—and, it was. To all my friends in relationships: I hope you have a fine Valentine’s Day. And, to my fellow singles: I think the photo says it all... [= *Originally posted on Tumblr 021412 LSL - 061712/14:25

Here's a promise: The VERY FIRST person with one of those 4G smart-phones who answers my question about ANYTHING with a smarmy, "That was so seven seconds ago," is going to instantly find out what it feels like to have said phone gleefully crammed into whatever orifice it fits easiest into. We'll see how smart they feel seven seconds after THAT. [=

After a few regulation games, we decided to create a fairly improbable structure—this worked. Where we went with it from there, well—many of you would simply not understand the math and physics involved. I barely even do… [= *Originally posted on Tumblr 022112 LSL - 061512/14:32 Shared Minds*
I try not to attribute too many human qualities to God. He did experience human life here, so there’s precedent for my musings. And, as being human is kinda my deal, I have limited success reigning in my imagination. One thing I enjoy is the wonder of creation: My mind marvels at its intricate simplicity. I suspect His did, too. I’m likely on my own to resolve the chocolate vs. vanilla thing, though. Just as well. [= *Originally posted on Tumblr 021212 LSL - 061412/10:11 No Plainer Nose*
“I fear that the appalling brutality we are witnessing in Homs, with the heavy weapons firing into civilian neighborhoods, is a grim harbinger of worse to come. Such violence is unacceptable before humanity." - Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, 02.08.12; commenting on the most recent state-sponsored violence in Homs, Syria. Really? A corrupt, militant dictatorship preserving power by murdering dissenters? Do tell... *Originally posted on Tumblr 020912 LSL - 061312/12:10 Stacked Deck*
Another jab at poor people from the Public Assistance game: “You hire ethnic lawyer through free ‘Judicare’ program to represent you at welfare office. He gets you additional benefits. Collect $300.” How unfair. Government-sponsored food, shelter, and medical care. Talk about a free ride. It’s really too bad those in the top 1% have so few resources to represent their interests in our government, as well. Oh... wait. *Originally posted on Tumblr 013112 LSL - 061212/01:44 Missed Use*
One time, I saw this big, red truck go zinging by. It had flashing lights on top, long hoses fixed to its sides, and was making this piercing sound—like a siren—so loud, I had to cover my ears. It was almost like there was some kind of emergency it was responding to. Guess I’ll never know what it was. At about that same time, I saw a building burning. You know, I bet they could have really used a truck like that. Huh. *Originally posted on Tumblr 012812 LSL - 061112/13:05 I sure don’t see why people keep claiming gardening is so difficult. It’s a totally natural process—you barely have to do anything. Right? Now, granted: I’m not at all familiar with gardening, or soil, or what kinds of plants grow well, or where, or under what conditions. I have no idea when to water a garden, or how much water it needs. I don’t know what the tools are for, or what to do with them. I’ve asked my friends, with beautiful gardens, about how it works. But, since what they said was unclear to me, I immediately dismissed their advice. And, when the people at the home gardening center gave me instructions I didn’t understand, I completely ignored them. I mean, what do THEY know, anyway? I’m not going to let some stranger working at a specialty garden store tell ME about gardening. This is America, after all. What am I, an idiot? Oh, well. Guess I’ll just jam this random wad of seeds and pits I’ve been collecting in an old soup can into the unprepared ground, somewhere, and hope for the best. Oh, man... I can’t WAIT for harvest time! WOOHOO!

Fence-sitters—true societal speed-bumps. While the purposed labor on either side of the fence, the sitter is perched right in the middle of it. Like a poser Atlas, but minus a sense of what real balance is. Rather than risk the appearance of conviction, they view ambivalence as wisdom, and chide both sides for not embracing the clarity sitting on the fence reveals only to them. Yeah, right. At least Atlas had a clue. *Originallty posted on Tumblr 012312 LSL - 060812/03:13 Unbaked*
Cake is, in a word, totally awesome. It’s so easy to make, too. Just follow the recipe. There’s flour, eggs, butter or other fatty goodness, a little baking powder, squirt of dish soap, whatever flavoring is desired, bake for a while, and, there you go. Cake. Can’t get much simpler. And, if one of the ingredients doesn’t fit, it can always be removed after the cake has cooled. Right? Yep. Should be no trouble at all. *Originally posted on Tumblr 012112 LSL - 060612/00:32 |
